It hides many wonders of nature, natural landscape, and topography of the mountains, the green of the trees, making a painting with a harmonious layout, with romantic scenery and attractive from the landscape earth northwest region.
Sapa Overview
Sapa is a beautiful town located in Lao Cai province where is surrounded by Yunna (China) on the north, Lai Chau Province on the west, Ha Giang Province on the east and Yen Bai, Son La provinces on the south.
It is a significant impression of spectacular scenery including mountains, waterfall, rice paddy fields and Man flowers in Sapa; because of climate here. It is also an ideal stop for Vietnam trekking and hill tribe tours.
Sapa History
Established as a hill station by the French in 1922, Sapa today is the tourism center of the northwest. Sapa is orientated to make the most of the spectacular views emerging on clear days; overlooking a plunging valley, with mountains towering above on all sides. Views of this epic scenery are often subdued by thick mist rolling across the peaks, but even when it's cloudy, local hill-tribe people fill the town with color.

If you were expecting a quaint alpine town, recalibrate your expectations. Modern tourism development has mushroomed haphazardly. Thanks to rarely enforced building height restrictions, Sapa's skyline is continually thrusting upwards.
But you're not here to hang out in town. This is northern Vietnam's premier trekking base from where hikers launch themselves into a surrounding countryside of cascading rice terraces and tiny hill-tribe villages that seem the world apart. Once you've stepped out into the lush fields, you'll understand the Sapa area's real charm.

Sapa climate and best time to visit
Lao Cai has a typical mountainous climate. The dry season lasts from October to March, it is cold, and rain season is from April to September.  Normally, annual average temperature is 23ºC; sometimes, there is snow in Sapa. This weather is very suitable for Sapa trekking tour.

The average temperature for Sapa town is 15.4ºC, with a maximum of 29.4ºC and a minimum of 1ºC. The warmest months are July and August, and the coldest months are December and January. While trips can be enjoyed all year-round, the winters in Sapa get cold, with some fog, drizzle, and snow falls in some years on the highest peaks.

The four seasons comes distinctly to Sapa when Nature changes her costume. Spring is bright with pear, peach, apricot and plum flowers. Summer comes and blooms with pansies, dahlias, sun-flowers and numerous tropical fruits. Autumn is the time for perfume mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms and plenty of specious medicinal plants,… The sky is vividly brightened with golden sun-rays and playful white clouds which seem to land on the ground, over the heads of people or on tops of trees. In winter, fog filled the space, making the landscapes look more mystery and attractive.

Sapa also experiences a marked wet season from May to September, with the heaviest rainfall occurring in July and August. The weather is notorious for changing frequently and quickly. Visitors to Sapa in summer can feel the climate of all four seasons in one day. In the morning and afternoon, it is cool like spring and autumn. At noon, it is as sunny and cloudless as in summer. And it is also cold in the evening. With no advance warning of a thunderstorm short and heavy rains may come at noon on any summer day. Subsequently, a rainbow appears, transforming Sapa into a magic land, which has been a constant source of poetic inspiration for years, lights up the whole region.

The best time to visit Sapa is March and May or from mid-September to early December.

In April and May, the ethnic people grow rice on terraced fields. When being seen from afar, the terraced rice fields look like a picture of nature with heart-catching beauty keeping tourists to stay for admiration a while. This picture however has its color changed seasonally, shows it most charming appearance when the new crop begins and when the field is lush with ripening rice.

In September and October when autumn ends, tourists can feel prosperity all over the area as rice in all terraced fields is ripe and turn to yellow color. During the time, the terraced rice fields look like golden silk scarves flying over in the wind above green mountain slopes, making the mountainous landscape amazingly beautiful.

From late December to February, Sapa has a harsh winter with the temperature sometimes drops to below zero degree which makes tree branches and grass are covered with ice. Sa Pa on icy days always attracts many tourists and photographers to the most beautiful pictures about wintertime in Sapa. In recent years, snow falls at the end of December which is the great time for a Christmas holiday and New Year vacation. Travelling to Sapa at this time, visitors may contemplate beauty-spot as breath-taking as in picture described in the Snow Queen fairy tale of Andersen.
